IMO COUNCIL ELECTION: Again , NIMASA returns without the ‘ trophy’

For the third consecutive time, Nigeria yesterday lost its bid to get re-elected into category 'C' of the International Maritime Organisation (IMO) which took place in London, scoring a miserable 98 points in an election that saw five African countries of Morocco, Egypt, South Africa, Kenya and Liberia joining the group. The category C is the executive organ of the IMO that takes decisions in the absence of the Assembly and coordinates all activities of the Organs of the organisation. It has 20 member countries with special interest in maritime transport or navigation. Stakeholders Oppose Amendment to NIMASA Act Seeking 1% Contribution to Navy

Stakeholders in the Nigerian maritime industry have opposed moves by the Nigerian Navy seeking amendment to the Nigerian Maritime Administration and Safety (NIMASA) Act to contribute 1% of its revenue to the Nigerian Navy. TAX HOLIDAY: NIMASA Appeals Against Enforcing Judgment

The Nigerian Maritime Administration and Safety Agency (NIMASA), has appealed the judgment of the Federal High Court Lagos in the matter between Nigeria Liquefied Natural Gas (NLNG), Attorney General of the Federation, Global West Vessels Specialists Ltd and NIMASA. The Agency filed the appeal with an application to stay the execution of the judgment and restrain NLNG, pending the determination of the appeal. The appeal and stay was filed even before receiving the Certified True Copy of the judgment 14 days after the judgment was delivered in line with legal provisions.
