Bayelsa State Governor, Senator Douye Diri, has saluted the resilience of people of the state while dedicating the 2022 Governor of the Year Award by The Sun Newspapers to victims of last year’s monster floods in the state. Speaking in Lagos on Saturday night shortly after he received the award, Governor Diri expressed delight that people of the state were able to surmount the challenges presented by the disaster. The All Progressives Congress (APC) in Bayelsa State has commiserated with the people of the state over the loss of lives and extensive destruction wrought by the recent floods in the state. In a statement today in Yenagoa, APC sympathised with victims of the floods, which it said reached almost every part of the state and caused large-scale damage to livelihoods. Bayelsa State Governor, Senator Douye Diri, has said the flooding in the state was overwhelming and beyond what the government alone can handle. The governor has, consequently, appealed for assistance from the federal government, local and international organisations as well as public-spirited individuals. He made the appeal in a statewide radio and television broadcast on Tuesday. According to him, the current flood has severely impacted lives and livelihoods, with nearly a million people in over 300 communities displaced and some deaths reported. Customs Area Controllers Tin Can Island,Comptroller Kunle Oloyede weekend said his Command has raised the bar in duty collection and trade facilitation adding that there are brighter prospects for the Nigeria Customs Service in the days ahead. Oloyede who was rolling out the mid year report of his Command posted a N274b revenue haul between January and June this year. The International Maritime Bureau (IMB) in its half-year report of 2022 has lauded the reduction in piracy in the globe and expressed optimism that it is a new dawn for the shipping community globally. This is coming on the heels of the Bureau receiving the lowest number of reported incidents for the first half of the year since 1994, evidencing its efforts in raising awareness to make the waters safe globally.
