Bayelsa State Governor, Senator Douye Diri, has announced a reward package for sportsmen and women from the state that participated in different competitions recently.
Olympic silver medalist, who won gold in wrestling at the Commonwealth Games, Blessing Oborududu, and sprinter Timma Godbless, who got gold in 4x100 relay for Nigeria in the African Senior Athletics Championship in Mauritius were among recipients of the governor’s gesture.
Among others were teenage table tennis sensation, Samuel Boboye, who won two gold medals for Nigeria in the Africa U-19 championship in Tunisia as well as
Bayelsa Queens, champions of the African Female Champions League WAFU Zone B tournament in Yamoussoukro, .Côte d’Ivoire.

Bayelsa State Governor, Senator Douye Diri, has congratulated the two state teams that emerged champions of the just-concluded Nestle Milo National Secondary Schools Basketball Championship in Lagos.
The St. Jude’s Girls Model School, Amarata-Yenagoa won in the female category for a record seventh time while in the male category, Bishop Dimieari Grammar School, Ovom-Yenagoa, became champions for the first time.

Bayelsa State Governor, Senator Douye Diri, yesterday made a surprise visit to the camp of the state-owned female football team, Bayelsa Queens, to motivate the players.
Not impressed with the state of facilities, Governor Diri directed the immediate relocation of the players from the camp to a more suitable place pending the provision of a permanent camp.
A statement by his Chief Press Secretary, Mr. Daniel Alabrah, quoted him as saying the state government will take steps to provide a befitting permanent site for both Bayelsa United and Bayelsa Queens.
The governor also directed that necessary steps be taken to ensure the immediate release of the bus for the female team.

An elated Governor Douye Diri has given out N14 million motivation bonus to the state-owned Bayelsa United after its victory over visiting AS Ashanti Golden Boys of Guinea in the preliminary round of the CAF Confederation Cup on Sunday.

Bayelsa State Governor, Senator Douye Diri, has commended a Nigerian sports management company, XO Sports, for its kitting deal for the state-owned Bayelsa United Football Club.

The Nigerian Ports Authority Managing Director, Hadiza Bala Usman yesterday commissioned the remodeled NPA Sports Club at Bode Thomas, Surulere, Lagos. Other facilities commissioned include the Lawn Tennis and Basketball Courts and Long Jump Pit.
The Managing Director noted that the facilities were in a "total state of dilapidation and dereliction" before the intervention of her Management to salvage the situation.
She said sports was a key factor in workers productivity, hence the need to give the sports complex a facelift.
