The first African graduate at the prestigious Harvard University in the United States of America, Amb. (Prof) Lawrence Baraebibai Ekpebu, was on Saturday interred at his hometown, Okoloba, Sabagreia in Kolokuma/Opokuma Local Government Area of Bayelsa State. The late Nigerian Ambassador to the Ivory Coast was given a state burial by the state government. Amb. Ekpebu, who died on January 2 this year at the age of 87, also attended Princeton University, another Ivy League institution in the U.S. The late accomplished scholar, diplomat, public administrator and intellectual colossus set an enviable academic record at Harvard yet to be broken more than 50 years after. The All Progressives Congress (APC), Bayelsa State chapter, has condemned in the strongest possible terms the murder of its member, Mr. Sunday Frank-Oputu, at his Yenagoa residence earlier in the week. The party in a statement by its State Publicity Secretary, Mr. Doifie Buokoribo, on Thursday, says no level of disagreement or conflict can justify the killing of anyone by another human being. “Only God gives life, and since human beings are not God, no one no matter the level of anger or bitterness should take the life of another human person”, he said. Bayelsa State Governor, Senator Douye Diri, has directed the police in the state to fish out killers of a chieftain of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Mr. Sunday Frank-Oputu. Mr. Frank-Oputu was assassinated by yet to be identified gunmen on Tuesday night at his Yenagoa residence.
