In the beginning, God created heaven and earth ,and thereafter said ” Let there be Light”, and there was light. In Bayelsa State, Governor Douye Diri, seems to have responded to this biblical injunction when he declared that henceforth, citizens of the state will now witness 24 hours, uninterrupted power supply.
By implication , this will now set the tone for the much anticipated industrialisation by moving her from a State beyond Oil. This cherry news reportedly came from Nigeria’s miracle Governor weekend when he announced that the State has procured ,and would install Gas Turbines that would commence and develop its Independent Power Plant. The actual cost of this intervention was not available as at press time but Shipping World Magazine understands that the intention is to pave way for Bayelsa State to join the League of states who enjoy 24 hrs non stop electricity.
In a statement shortly before he commenced his annual vacation, Governor Douye Diri apologized over the prolonged blackout in the State on account of the damaged Ahoada-Yenagoa 132kv line. He said: ” I understand the pains and the economic loss our people have been subjected to due to the blackout “, and assured that ” with the comprehensive repair works done so far, i am hopeful power will soon be restored once the recently vandalized conductor at towers 29 to 31 is replaced. He said both conventional and local security have been deployed at Ula Ikata and Ihuike communities in Ahoada East LGA of Rivers to secure the site until repair work is completed.
