The three unmistakable traits of a great leader is one who has empathy, integrity and creativity moulded into one. According to a recent research, great leaders use empathy to build rapport, resolve conflicts and create a supportive and inclusive work environment. A leader with Integrity is honest and relies on their own moral compass and values to make decisions for the organization. He is also one who invests hugely in creativity for developing new products or services and finding unique ways to address challenges. Best leaders rarely follow established pathways or copy the routes others have taken, instead, they embrace new ways of thinking and doing things.
Not only does Comptroller Dera Nnadi, mni ,parade these unique qualities of a leader, he is also blessed with an innovative boss in the Comptroller General of Customs, Bashir Adewale Adeniyi, MFR who has continued to motivate him and Officers of the Tin Can Island Command of the Nigeria Customs Service, to break new grounds. Traditionally, Tin Can Island Port Command, like Apapa , is reserved for the best minds . Only officers who are tested and trusted fall into this bill. And given Nnadi’s background as an officer who has been outstanding both in enforcement and compliance tasks, it is no surprise to keen observers that this officer and gentleman has continued to make his fatherland proud. In the Area of revenue generation, Compt Nnad has shattered every record he met on ground. In the history of the Nigeria Customs Service, no Area Controller in Tin Can has crossed the N800b annual threshold.
As at November 7, 2024, Compt Nnamdi has already recorded N1.04trillion , even with less than two months to the end of year. But rather than beat his chest, he has put the reason behind his success on the door steps of CGC Wale Adeniyi, without whose support, he insists, this feat would not have been achieved. He has even more accolades to his credit in the Area of anti smuggling, especially in the fight against drug trafficking. With a rising number of drug traffickers exploiting new routes in Nigeria, Nnadi in Collaboration with the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency, NDLEA, has sent a warning to drug traffickers. In 2024 alone, no fewer than 37 drug traffickers have been arrested at the Tin can Island Port. With over 300,000 kilograms of hard substances seized by the Command, Dera Nnadi has written his name in gold as a no nonsense officer.
Only last week, the Tin can Command of the Nigeria Customs Service made a seizure of hard drugs worth over N36b. In appreciation of this spectacular feat, Nnadi has earned a worthy commendation both from the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency and the Maritime Reporters Association of Nigerian, MARAN. As the top echelon of the Nigeria Customs Service converge in Abuja this week for the Annual Comptroller General’s Conference, it is expected that Compt Nnadi will carry the banner of the Tin Can Island Command high with several AWARDS to his credit
