The former Director-General of Nigerian Maritime Administration and Safety Agency (NIMASA), Dr. Bashir Jamoh, has commended the Governor of Bayelsa State, Senator Douye Diri, for the establishment of a State Ministry of Blue Economy to tap into the prospects in the ocean. The United Arab Emirates has said it will support Bayelsa State in Nigeria’s Niger Delta region to develop its gas resources, agriculture and seaport. The UAE Ambassador to Nigeria, Salem Saeed Al-Shamsi, stated this at a meeting with the Bayelsa State Governor, Senator Douye Diri, at the embassy in Abuja on Tuesday. The Bayelsa State Government through its Ministry of Health has faulted the inclusion of Bayelsa on the list of states affected by cholera epidemic outbreak as recently published by the Nigerian Centre for Disease Control (NCDC) in its disease surveillance report. The Permanent Secretary of the Ministry, Dr Toyin Azebi, refuted the report at a joint press briefing shortly after a meeting of the Bayelsa Taskforce on Immunization and Health Services presided over by its Chairman and Deputy Governor of the state, Senator Lawrence Ewhrudjakpo, in Government House, Yenagoa on Thursday. Governor of Bayelsa State, Senator Douye Diri, on Friday, swore in additional 15 commissioners bringing the total number of members of his cabinet to 29. The governor also created two new ministries, which are Blue Economy and that of Special Duties (General Services), which is in charge of non-indigene affairs. Fourteen commissioners had been sworn in in the first batch on April 29. Senator Diri also re-assigned the Commissioner for Special Duties (East), Preye Brodrick, to the Ministry of Transport while Mr Mandy Akpalo was assigned the Ministry of Special Duties (Central). D, MSc, mPSN, MAW is the immediate past Pioneer Chairman of the Bayelsa State Drug Abuse Prevention and Rehabilitation Committee (BADAPARC), hails from Yenagoa Community in Atissa clan, Yenagoa Local Government Area of Bayelsa State. This committee was established in 2021 by His Excellency, Senator Douye Diri, the Governor of Bayelsa State, to address the pressing issues of drug abuse within the state. Governor of Bayelsa State, Senator Douye Diri, has approved the appointment of a seasoned military officer and administrator, Air Vice Marshal Nelson Ebieteli Calmday (retired), as the new Managing Director/Chief Executive Officer of the Bayelsa State International Airport. A statement by the governor’s Chief Press Secretary, Mr. Daniel Alabrah, on Friday, disclosed that the appointment takes immediate effect.
