17 ships with petrol, other products arrive Lagos ports

By Aisha Cole   Seventeen  ships conveying petrol and other commodities have berthed at Apapa and Tin-Can Island ports in Lagos, the Nigerian Ports Authority (NPA) said Thursday. The authority said in its daily publication, Shipping Position, that the vessels were waiting to berth with their consignments at the ports. According to it, seven of the 17 vessels  are waiting to berth with petrol, while another 10 will berth with containers and general cargo. NPA said that another 29 ships are expected in the coming weeks to sail in with general cargo, bilk sugar, bilk frozen fish  buckwheat,  petrol and containers,  while 18 ships were already discharging gypsum, container, general cargo, petrol, diesel, butane, buckwheat and frozen fish. Several persons are feared dead at Abattoir area of Agege outskirts of Lagos when a train derailed this morning. Lagos State police spokesman, Olarinde Famous-Cole who confirmed the incident noted that the train also rammed into a Trailer, injuring many and leaving unconfirmed number of victims feared dead. According to Famou- Cole who confirmed the incident in a telephone call, “We just got the information. Our policemen and those attached to the railway command are in control of the situation. I cannot confirm any death, but i can tell you that some persons were injured. ” We shall be able to furnish you with details later please.”

There was pandemonium in Ogba area of Lagos State as two dead bodies, a male and female, were found in a car parked at a lonely spot, yesterday. Nobody could explain what led to the death of the two adults, who onlookers described as lovers. One of the onlookers alleged that the lady was a married woman with children, while the man was her lover, adding that they were probably engaged in sex when the incident occurred. The deceased were reported to have driven to an area behind the Nigeria Institute of Journalism, NIJ, to engage in sex. One of the people at the scene said: “By the time passers-by saw them, the car engine was still running and the air conditioner was on, indicating that they did not die of suffocation.” It was  learnt that the man was found in the driver’s side, half ...
