NIMASA did not spend anything close to N300m at IMO Election…Bashir Jamoh

Mallam Bashir Jamoh , Executive Director Finance and Administration at NIMASA, has said the maritime press goofed over claims that the agency spent a whooping N300m at the just concluded IMO Council meeting. ' I think the media got it all wrong. What NIMASA spent for the entire trip and the campaign was far less than N300m being peddled by the media', he said. It would be recalled that Nigerian for the third consecutive year failed to secure a seat in Category 'C' of the recent IMO Council Election in which five African countries got elected. African countries which came out at the election include Liberia, Kenya, Morocco, South Africa and Egypt. IMO COUNCIL ELECTION: Again , NIMASA returns without the ‘ trophy’

For the third consecutive time, Nigeria yesterday lost its bid to get re-elected into category 'C' of the International Maritime Organisation (IMO) which took place in London, scoring a miserable 98 points in an election that saw five African countries of Morocco, Egypt, South Africa, Kenya and Liberia joining the group. The category C is the executive organ of the IMO that takes decisions in the absence of the Assembly and coordinates all activities of the Organs of the organisation. It has 20 member countries with special interest in maritime transport or navigation. Succour has last come the way of the graduates of NIMASA's seaferers development program as the first batch of about 250 Cadets have been invited to the NIMASA' Corporate head office , Lagos, this week for documentation .
