A TRIBUTE TO FERDINAND AGU .By Prof Pat Utomi.

The news is heavy and weighs down the heart. But e give thanks to a creator deserving of our gratitude. My friend Ferdinand Agu crossed over with no notice, no time for a wrap-up, let alone say goodbye. Ferdinand was a class act. Gifted with a clear head and profound in erudition. Those who came out to see the architect as technician found themselves before a poet and philosopher king. As DG of NMA (NIMASA), he turned to a few of us for the template for change. As a neighbor on Ilabere, he walked across in lamentation when shocking things like the line up of candidates for Governor in Imo appeared in 2010. He was not from Imo, but his essence sorrowed for the people of that state. What a loss. May the Angels of God the most high escort him into paradise. Prof Pat Utomi...

When I arrived at NIMASA in March 2016 and started preaching the gospel of reforms and reputational restoration, the director - level cadre of the agency threw only one challenge at me:equal or surpass the record of a certain Arc. Ferdinald Agu,who had earlier served as DG/ CEO of the predecessor organisation to NIMASA, NMA. That challenge set the stage for and the tone of my future engagements in the agency. First, who is this man who has become a source of leadership reference in NIMASA? It was evident to all that we have only ever had very few of these agency leaders as role models and sources of inspiration for leadership. Fewer have been superlative and exceptional .Therefore, it became imperative to extract the core elements of Arc Agu's outstanding and qualitative performance pri...

1 In the true reality of life ,there is nothing cast in stone if we must make progress as a people. We must strive to break new ground and be able to compete effectively well in all human endeavours at the global stage. Therefore, the need for societal reforms that could trigger exponential socio-economic development becomes inevitable. But reforms must always be progressive intended, enduring, and embedded with a human face. Contrastingly, reforms become something else when citizens are choked up with multiple policies, and their purchasing powers are being eroded to almost ground zero and unable to make essential purchases to sustain their existence. Our manufacturers who are gasping for air for survival are inevitably entangled in these unfriendly policies as their warehouses are now glu...

Sarumi who was at various times the Executive Secretary/ CEO of Nigerian Shippers Council and Managing Director of Nigerian Ports Authority, NPA, raised the alarm Monday at a Public Hearing of the Nigerian Shippers' Council Repeal and Enactment of the Shippers' Council and Economic Regulatory Bill conducted by the House of Representatives Committee on Shipping Services and Committee on Ports and Harbour.
