Rector of Nigeria’s Premier Maritime Institution, the Maritime Academy of Nigeria, Oron, Commodore Duja Effedua has pledged to transform the institution to one of the best in the world. The Rector who spoke exclusively to Shipping World said “under my watch the emphasis would be quality, quality, quality. And to achieve this we are going to turn the institution to a centre of excellence in such a manner that every cadet of the Academy would be a worthy ambassador of this great country. President Muhammadu Buhari names Demola Seriki as Chairman of MAN, Oron Governing Council.

President Muhammadu Buhari has appointed a Governing Council for the Maritime Academy of Oron, Akwa Ibom State. The 4-man Council is headed by Demola Seriki as Chairman. Other members of the Governing Council include Taiwo Tayo Ibitola(SAN), Hon Garba Jiji and Alh Sale Kudiawa. The Maritime Academy of Nigeria has been without a Governing Council since the inception of the present administration. With this appointment, the Interim Management Council of the Academy headed by Aare Adebayo Sarumi is expected to wind up. The maritime industry in Nigeria contributes about 90% by volume of the goods that come into the country and by value, it is the third largest contributor to our nation's coffers after the Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation and the Nigeria Customs Service. Since the early 70s, government has invested heavily in marine infrastructure in the sector to bring about port efficiency and high productivity.
