A seeming Corporate War is brewing in Nigeria's Maritime Industry as the Minister of Transportation, Rt Hon Rotimi Amaechi is at daggers drawn with the newly appointed Board of the Nigerian Ports Authority. Recall that President Muhammadu Buhari on January 21, appointed a new Board for the NPA under the headship of Mr Emmanuel Abisoye. Bayelsa State government has assured civil servants in the state that it had no plan to downsize the workforce in view of the huge wage bill it is grappling with. Rather, it said it would seek alternative sources of revenue to shore up its finances. The Commissioner for Finance, Mr. Maxwell Ebibai, gave the assurance on Thursday at the transparency briefing for the months of January and February 2021 in Yenagoa, the state capital. Mr. Ebibai said the state government got N6.8 billion for February as net receipts from the Federation Account after first line deductions as against the huge wage bill and other recurrent expenditures of N7.358 billion. Bayelsa State Governor, Senator Douye Diri, has offered scholarship to another first class law graduate from the state, Miss Pere Esther Amazige. Miss Amazige, who graduated from the Rivers State University in Port Harcourt, is the second female Law graduate to bag the scholarship after Miss Ebizi Eradiri that had a double First Class at the Niger Delta University and the Nigerian Law School.
