Gov Diri Directs Investigation, Autopsy Into Bayelsa Youth’s Death

Bayelsa State Governor, Senator Douye DirI, has directed immediate investigation into the circumstances that led to the death of a Bayelsa youth, Goodluck Oviekeme. Governor Diri also directed that an autopsy be conducted on Monday with representatives of the late youth's family, the police and the state government present. The late Goodluck was said to have been arrested by the police special squad "Operation Puff Adder" last Wednesday over an alleged robbery incident in his Biogbolo community. Making the announcement on Thursday, September 23rd, 2021, in Lagos, the Chairman, Selection Committee Zik Prize 2020, Professor Pat Utomi said the capacity of the Director General to have extensively managed the restructuring, reformation and repositioning of NIMASA earned him the prestigious award.     The Nigerian Maritime Administration and Safety Agency (NIMASA) has said the country is taking proactive steps to address its exposure to the threat of ballast water because of the high tanker traffic in its waters. Director General of the Agency, Dr. Bashir Jamoh, stated this in Lagos at the 10th Meeting of the National Taskforce (NTF) on Implementation of Ballast Water Management (BWM) Convention, 2004.
