Dr. Bashir Jamoh Prize for Best Maritime Reporter to be unveiled at Maiden Maritime Journalists Retreat

The Maiden Edition of the National Retreat for Maritime Journalists is scheduled to hold from October 15-16, 2021 at the glamorous Cynergy Suites Royale in Ajah, Lagos.

About 50 Maritime Journalists drawn from the five major Maritime Associations such as the League of Maritime Editors & Publishers (LOMEP), Maritime Reporters Association of Nigeria (MARAN), Maritime Journalists Association of Nigeria (MAJAN), Association of Maritime Journalists of Nigeria (AMJON) and Shipping Correspondents Association of Nigeria (SCAN) are expected at the retreat.

The Minister of. Transportation, Rt. Hon. Rotimi Amaechi is the Special Guest of Honour while the former National President of Association of Nigerian Licensed Customs Agents (ANLCA), Prince Olayiwola Shittu, is the Chairman of the occasion. All heads of Maritime Agencies are expected to attend the event.

Notable Maritime experts are expected to present papers at the retreat. They include

  • The Need for Inter-Agency Cooperation in the Maritime Sector by Barr. Hassan Bello, former Executive Secretary, Nigerian Shippers Council;
  •  NIMASA Floating Dock:
    National Asset or a Drain Pipe? by Temisan Omatseye, former DG, NIMASA;
  •  The Imperatives of a Viable Maritime Media Cooperative Society by Mohammed Bello-Koko, the Acting Managing Director of Nigerian Ports Authority
  • How to Run a Viable Maritime Media Business by Dr. Dakuku Peterside, former DG NIMASA
  • Nigerian Ports as Hub Status by Ibrahim Gwandu, former Managing Director, Nigerian Ports Authority.

A major highlight of the 2-Day Media Retreat will be the unveiling of the Dr. Bashir Jamoh Prize for BEST MARITIME REPORTER 2021.

The Maiden Maritime Retreat for Maritime Journalists is a brain-child of Elder Asu Beks, CEO of Maritime Media Limited in collaboration with the Federal Ministry of Transportation.
