Agge Port City: Maritime University will partner with Bayelsa State Govt….Vice Chancellor.

Vice Chancellor of the Nigerian Maritime University, Prof Emmanuel Adigio, has promised to partner with the Bayelsa State Government in actualizing the dreams of a modern Port City in Agge, Ekeremor Local Govt Area. Professor Adigio who spoke exclusively with Shipping World in Yenagoa said’ “we want to partner with Bayelsa State in building capacity,we must start in earnest in training the required manpower for the proposed Port City as we cannot just fold our arms and wait until the Port is ready’, he told Shipping World. The Nigeria Maritime University, Okerenkoko in Delta currently runs four year degree programs in various courses spread among three main faculties. They include the Faculty of Transport and Logistics, Marine and Environment Management as well as the Faculty of Engineering.

It is expected that the first batch of about100:graduates of the premier Maritime University would pass out next April. Courses offered by the institution include Transport and Logistics, Port Management, Economic and Finance as well as Nautical Sciences,Fisheries and Aqua Culture,Marine Environmental Management, Marine Geology,among others.

Professor Adigio who identified paucity of funds as a major challenge facing the institution revealed that relevant foreign and local donor agencies have been approached to help build the needed infrastructure and quality academic staff for the University. On accreditation of the various courses by National Universities Commission,NUC Professor Adigio explained that the institution has answered positively to all queries posed by the Commission during their visitation. “There is no cause for alarm , we have responded to all the queries and the NUC seemed quite impressed with our defence”, he said In the next academic session, no fewer than 600 students would be offered admission .
