Gov Douye Diri receives a souvenir from Dr Jamoh Governor of Bayelsa State, Senator Douye Diri, says the Nigerian Maritime Administration and Safety Agency (NIMASA) is key in efforts to wean Nigeria from its dependence on crude oil, stressing that the most enduring wealth of the country is in maritime. Diri stated this on Monday in Lagos, when he paid a courtesy visit to the headquarters of NIMASA. The Governing Board of the Nigerian Maritime Administration and Safety Agency (NIMASA) has approved the promotion of 595 staff, including nine Directors. The promotions were approved the inaugural meeting of the Board in Lagos . A statement by the newly promoted Deputy Director of Corporate Communications, Chief Philip Kyanet, explained that 9 deputy directors were elevated to substantive directors  while 45 Assistant Directors were promoted to Deputy Directors, and 71 Grade Level 14 officers were promoted to Assistant Directors. The Comptroller General of Nigeria Customs Service, Hameed Ali was again conspicuously absent as heads of maritime agencies  met in Lagos,  agreeing to set up a timeline for 24 hour port operations. After almost 13 years of an endless wait, the Nigerian Maritime Administration and Safety Agency  says it has finally secured approval for the disbursement of the controversial Cabotage Vessel Financing Fund. The Agency's helmsman,  Dr Bashir Jamoh  who broke the good news at a meeting with Shipowners in Lagos  said details for the disbursement  were being worked out.
