President Buhari Authorized NNPC to Hide N50b from TSA Account “

Breaking News, Business
The House of Representatives on Tuesday raised questions over a “purported” presidential approval withholding some special Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation accounts from being transferred to the Treasury Single Account. The accounts, with funds worth N50bn, are still being kept by commercial banks in breach of the TSA policy, which provides that all accounts belonging to Ministries, Departments and Agencies of government should be transferred to the TSA. The TSA, a centralised Federal Government revenue account, is kept by the Central Bank of Nigeria. A Nigerian firm, SystemSpecs, provides the Remita electronic platform for running the TSA, saving the Federal Government revenue that could, ordinarily, have been lost. An ad hoc ...

What Buhari must do to help himself

By Dele Sobowale He, who speaks without modesty, will find it difficult to make his words good.” Confucius, 551-479BC, Chinese philosopher. …. He also runs the risk of making a mockery of himself.  He was, and self-advertised, as a man who would come into office to fight corruption and deal with anyone found to be corrupt without fear or favour. On that promise, millions of Nigerians campaigned and voted for him. I did in 2011, when Lai Mohammed, his current Minister of Information was still a spokesman for a defunct political party called ACN. In the months leading to the 2011 elections, Lai was the arrowhead of Buhari’s adversaries who told us that the man was “too old” (among other deficiencies they alleged) to lead Nigerians. Four years after, the same Lai, the spokesman of th...

‘Look, Akpabio, I’m not a bastard’ — How Mu’azu opposed plan to reject Buhari’s victory

Politics
Ahmed Adamu Mu’azu, chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) during the historic 2015 presidential poll, furiously reacted to suggestions that he should reject Muhammadu Buhari’s victory after President Goodluck Jonathan had openly conceded. Jonathan, after congratulating Buhari in an unprecedented telephone call while the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) was yet to officially announce the winner, told party members that although he had conceded to Buhari in his personal capacity, PDP was free to reject the result. Before Jonathan conceded, however, Mu’azu had threatened to do so on behalf of the party. He even stopped picking Jonathan’s calls at some point. All these are snippets of the intrigues that followed Jonathan’s defeat — as narrated by Bolaji...

Fed Civil Service Yet to Disengage Maina

Breaking News, Law, Politics
Despite an order last week by President Muhammadu Buhari that the embattled former Chairman of the Presidential Task Force on Pension Reforms, Abdulrasheed Maina, be dismissed from service on account of his mysterious return and re-engagement by the Federal Civil Service Commission, indications are rife that he may not have been officially sacked by his employers. Usually dependable sources at the Civil Service Commission told our magazine that the process of his formal disengagement is yet to commence. "  We cannot sack him based on a mere verbal order by Mr President. The Civil Service is an institution guided by rules and regulations, and Maina's case cannot be an exception",  said our source. It was learnt that as at the close of business last Friday, the Commission was yet t...
