Bayelsa State Governor, Senator Douye Diri, on Sunday, called for better funding and equipping of the Nigerians Armed Forces. The governor said this would serve as motivation for the military in the bid to end insurgency and insecurity in the country. Senator Diri stated this during the interdenominational service to mark the 2021 Armed Forces Remembrance Day at the King of Glory Chapel, Government House, Yenagoa. Calm has returned to Peremabiri Community in Southern Ijaw Local Government Area of Bayelsa State following the intervention of the state government. Some yet to be identified gunmen had attacked the community on Sunday for the second time in about a week, shooting sporadically and engaging in arson. The residence of a known repentant militant leader was reportedly torched in the attack. Bayelsa State Governor, Senator Douye Diri, has signed the 2021 Appropriation Bill of N329.29 billion into law. Governor Diri had on November 26 presented an estimate of N290.295 billion tagged "Budget of Growth" to the state House of Assembly. While assenting to the bill on Wednesday evening in Government House, Yenagoa, the governor said the increase in the figure would address areas of deficit identified in the appropriation bill as well as assist in the infrastructure development of the state. The foreign sailors were kidnapped on November 25 from their vessel along the Pennington River in neighbouring Delta State and brought into Bayelsa. The Bayelsa State government on Monday lamented the decline in revenues accruing from the federation account while announcing its income and expenditure profile for the months of August, September and October 2020. Presenting a breakdown of the figures in Yenagoa, the Commissioner for Finance, Mr. Maxwell Ebibai, disclosed that the state received a gross inflow of N12.8 billion for August.
