The announcement came via a statement by Presidential spokesman Femi Adesina . But almost three months after the announcement, it was learnt that Transportation Minister Rotimi Amaechi has declined to inaugurate the new Board. Our investigations revealed that the Transportation Minister is unhappy about the way a memo on the reappointment of Hadiza Bala Usman as Managing Director of the NPA and the constitution of a new Board was "smuggled" to ...

NIWA set to move containers from Lagos to Onitsha Port

Port News, Press Release
In an effort to make Onitsha River Port functional, and to decongest the Lagos Ports, the National Inland Waterways Authority (NIWA) is to engage the services of Akewa Colmar Terminal Limited (ACTL) to move containers from Lagos Ports to Onitsha River Port via Burutu Port in Delta State. The idea of hauling containers via Burutu Ports to Onitsha River port is to deliberately avoid the two small bridges of Gbarekolo and Bumandi.  Because the two bridges are too tiny and shallow for sea moving badges or vessels to ply through, that is why the company (ACTL) is considering the route from Lagos Ports to Burutu Port then to Onitsha River Port as final destination. The Managing Director of NIWA Chief Dr. George Moghalu disclosed that NIWA is targeting about 1,000 containers to be hauled per ...

The tussle which dogged the Board of the Nigerian Ports Authority NPA, under the Chairmanship of Chief Olabode George which ultimately sent some members to jail may be rearing its head again. Rumour had it then that Capt. Olu Abidoye, then Executive Director Marine and Operations was at daggers drawn with Architect Aminu Dabo who served as Managing Director. Abidoye, basking in his core professional competence was believed to be angling to succeed Aminu Dabo, thereby creating all manner of bottlenecks to frustrate the Dabo management and paint it in bad light and inefficient in a bid to ease his way to the leadership of the Authority. Ironically, all that resulted in a boomerang as they all ultimately lost their positions and ended up in jail! A similar scenario seems to be playin...
