Customs Area Controllers Tin Can Island,Comptroller Kunle Oloyede weekend said his Command has raised the bar in duty collection and trade facilitation adding that there are brighter prospects for the Nigeria Customs Service in the days ahead. Oloyede who was rolling out the mid year report of his Command posted a N274b revenue haul between January and June this year. The Customs Chief who explained that the figure was more than 27 percent leap over the same period last year also announced a 73 per cent increase in exports at the Port , posting a whopping 138,246.50 metric tons .Oloyede valued exports from the Command at over N100b. INTERNATIONAL MARITIME BUREAU CONFIRMS PIRACY DECLINE IN THE GULF OF GUINEA.

The International Maritime Bureau (IMB) in its half-year report of 2022 has lauded the reduction in piracy in the globe and expressed optimism that it is a new dawn for the shipping community globally. This is coming on the heels of the Bureau receiving the lowest number of reported incidents for the first half of the year since 1994, evidencing its efforts in raising awareness to make the waters safe globally. The Gulf of Guinea Declaration on Suppression of Piracy has confirmed that there has not been any case of Seafarers kidnap one year after the May 2021 declaration. This is considered commendable progress in comparison to the 2020 statistics when 130 seafarers were kidnapped. Director General of Nigerian Maritime Administration and Safety Agency (NIMASA), Dr. Bashir Jamoh, has received the prestigious Zik Leadership Prize in Public Policy for 2020. The organisers of the award, the Public Policy Research and Analysis Centre (PPRAC), said Dr. Jamoh was honoured for his giant strides in repositioning the Agency with initiatives that had inspired tremendous positive change in the maritime sector.
