Gov Douye Diri receives a souvenir from Dr Jamoh
Governor of Bayelsa State, Senator Douye Diri, says the Nigerian Maritime Administration and Safety Agency (NIMASA) is key in efforts to wean Nigeria from its dependence on crude oil, stressing that the most enduring wealth of the country is in maritime. Diri stated this on Monday in Lagos, when he paid a courtesy visit to the headquarters of NIMASA. He said the country’s future depended on the successful harnessing of the enormous resources in its marine environment.
Diri appealed to NIMASA to increase its presence in Bayelsa State, especially in the area of domain awareness, to ensure security in the state’s maritime environment and build confidence in investments in the state’s huge maritime potential.
The governor, w...
DG of NIMASA, Dr. Bashir Jamoh and Consul General, Kim In-Taek.
Nigeria and South Korea have agreed to intensify collaboration in trade and shipping development. This was disclosed in Lagos during a meeting between the Director-General of the Nigerian Maritime Administration and Safety Agency (NIMASA), Dr. Bashir Jamoh, and Consul General, Embassy of the Republic of Korea in Nigeria, Kim In-Taek. Both countries have maintained good maritime and trade relations since the 1980s. But Jamoh and In-Taek said there was need to expand the relationship in line with global economic dynamics.
The NIMASA Director-General told newsmen after the meeting with the South Korean envoy that development of Nigeria’s maritime potential was a critical element of President Muhammadu Buhari’s economic div...
Mallam H. B . Ahmed
A former Comptroller General of the Nigeria Customs Service, Mallam H. B . Ahmed has condemned in the strongest possible terms, the recent approval of over N600b by the Federal Excutive Council for the procurement of scanners at the nation's Seaports and other entry points. The former Customs Chief who spoke exclusively with our correspondent said " it is the responsibility of terminal operators to render such a Service, and not the government. Scanners like cranes and forklifts are some of the services required to be provided by Terminal Operators.
This is what is applicable in other climes and Nigeria should not be an exception " he said. Mallam Ahmed who is well respected and regarded as one of the most grounded Ex Customs Chiefs said it was unpatriotic to mak...
Director-General of Nigerian Maritime Administration and Safety Agency (NIMASA), Dr. Bashir Jamoh
The quest for inter agency cooperation among relevant governmentl agencies as a panacea to secure Nigeria’s maritime domain last weekend took Director-General of the Nigerian Maritime Administration and Safety Agency (NIMASA), Dr. Bashir Jamoh, to the door step of the Comptroller-General of the Nigeria Immigration Service (NIS), Muhammed Babandede.
Jamoh, who was at the NIS headquarters on a working visit, said the immigration service was a critical stakeholder in the security apparatus of the country. He said the service was also key in the implementation of the Cabotage law, which seeks to empower Nigerians in the maritime sector.
Jamoh said, “We need to interface and synergi...
Comptroller-General of Customs, Col. Hameed Ibrahim Ali
The attention of Nigeria Customs Service has been drawn to a gross misinterpretation of the Comptroller-General of Customs, Col. Hameed Ibrahim Ali (Rtd) on his presentation at the public hearing of the Senate Committee on Finance.
A write-up by a supposed learned personality on Maritime matters, going viral on social media unfortunately misrepresented the CGC’s position on Africa Continental Free Trade Agreement erroneously misinforming the public that the CGC is against the implementation of the Free Trade Agreement/Facilitation, because it will affect revenue collection.
On the contrary, the CGC’s position was in support of increased local production for the nation to benefit from the forthcoming ACFTA. He explained the im...
“Nothing in all the world is more dangerous than sincere ignorance…”
These words of Martin Luther King Jr. echoed in my mind as I listened to the Comptroller General of the Nigerian Customs Service advise against implementation of the WTO Trade Facilitation Agreement and the African Continental Free Trade Agreement in a presentation before the Nigerian Senate last week. The shock of his incredulous advice is matched only by the reasons for his position – that it will negatively impact revenue generation!
Colonel Hameed Ibrahim Ali
Col. Hameed Ali’s theory is that if the Trade Facilitation Agreement is implemented to ease current challenges being faced in import and export of goods, customs revenue will drop, so better not to implement the reforms.
This may explain why the Nige...

Clearly, the above headline sounds not only a bit disagreeable but to a large extent antithetical for those who are familiar with Hassan Bello in the discharge of his national assignment, in the past one decade or so.
Mr. Hassan Bello
But the casting is deliberate and by no means intended to subtract from an already established fact that the Executive Secretary/CEO of the Nigerian Shippers’ Council, Mr. Hassan Bello remains the beacon of the ports industry development agenda, a master technocrat, avid performer, great initiator and facilitator; with a knack for uncommon strategy and conquest in matters of utmost urgency.
It is in the light of the qualities aforementioned that the headline finds expression, since no nation or strategists appeared to have been able to respond adequa...
