It is about a week ago since the Independent and Corrupt Practices Commission arrested and detained Dr Bashir Jamoh, the immediate past Director General of the Nigerian Maritime Adminstration and Safety Agency, NIMASA. As Convener of the Maritime Elders Forum, we are disturbed that the ICPC is yet to offer any official statement as to the reason(s) behind his arrest, nor file charges against him. Nigeria's Oil Minister, Sen Heineken Lokpobori, has won the coveted " Most Influential Niger Delta Personality" Award in the 2026 edition of the Maritime Industry Merit Awards, MIMA. A statement issued in Lagos over the weekend by Chairman of the Local Organising Committee, Prince Olayiwola Shittu, revealed that Lokpobiri polled 42.1 per cent votes cast to beat his closest rivals, Amb. Godknows Igali, Chairman of PANDEF (33.9) per cent, and Dr Dennis Otuaro, Chairman of the Presidential Amnesty Programme(24) per cent. Organisers of the annual Maritime Industry Merit Awards, MIMA,has unveiled the Comptroller General of Nigeria Customs Service, Dr Adewale Adeniyi as the Most Maritime Media-friendly CEO. In a voting process spanning 60 days, Dr Adeniyi garnared 41.8% of the votes, against Dr Abubakar Dantsoho, Managing Director of Nigerian Ports Authority, who secured 33%, while Mr Bola Oyebamiji, immediate past helmsman of NIWA, came third with 25.2% of the total votes cast.
