After months of speculation and rumoured defection from the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, Governor of Bayelsa State, Senator Douye Diri, on Wednesday, officially announced his resignation from the party over what he described as “obvious reasons.” Governor Diri made the announcement during an expanded State Executive Council meeting in Government House, Yenagoa, which had in attendance Speaker of the House of Assembly, Abraham Ingobere, his deputy, Michael Ogbere, the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA) minority leader, Edward Brigidi and seven other lawmakers. Bayelsa Signs Solar Panel Production Deal

Bayelsa State recorded another milestone on Tuesday following the signing of a renewal energy agreement for solar panels manufacturing plant in the state. The tripartite deal between the Federal Government’s Rural Electrification Agency (REA), the Bayelsa government and J Marine Logistics Limited, a subsidiary of the Dubai-based Jampur Group that supplied the state’s 60mw gas turbines, was signed in Abuja during the 2025 Nigeria Renewable Energy Innovation Forum (NREIF) at the Transcorp Hilton Hotel. President Bola Tinubu is scheduled to inaugurate the $400m Otakikpo Onshore Crude Oil Export Terminal in Rivers State on October 8, the first new crude export facility to be built in Nigeria in over 50 years.
