UGOCHINYERE CONGRATULATES AGBEDI ON EMERGENCE AS PDP CAUCUS LEADER IN HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES

Hon. Ikenga Imo Ugochinyere, the lawmaker representing Ideato North/South Federal Constituency of Imo State, has extended his heartfelt congratulations to Hon. Fred Agbedi on his emergence as the new Leader of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) Caucus in the House of Representatives.

Hon. Agbedi, a ranking member from Bayelsa State who chairs the House Committee on FCT Area Councils and Ancillary Matters, was elected late Wednesday during an emergency meeting of PDP lawmakers in the Green Chamber.

In a statement issued shortly after the announcement, Hon. Ugochinyere, who also chairs the House Committee on Petroleum Resources (Downstream), described Agbedi’s emergence as a pivotal moment for the PDP’s resurgence in the National Assembly.

“I congratulate my dear colleague and leader on his election, which marks a watershed in our collective effort to reposition our great party as a formidable force ahead of future elections, particularly the 2027 general elections,” Ugochinyere said.

He lauded the caucus decision as a victory for internal democracy and party discipline, noting that the process reflected the resolve of PDP lawmakers to chart an independent and strategic path forward.

“Despite external pressures and orchestrated efforts to undermine our unity, the caucus has spoken clearly. The emergence of Hon. Fred Agbedi is a bold statement that the PDP remains resilient and forward-looking,” he added.

While expressing concern over what he described as divisive tendencies within the party, Ugochinyere took a swipe at the House Minority Leader, Hon. Kingsley Chinda, accusing him of attempting to frustrate the will of the caucus.

“We witnessed disturbing actions aimed at derailing this historic transition, but in the end, the voice of reason and the will of the majority prevailed,” Ugochinyere stated.

He further urged party stakeholders to close ranks and support Agbedi’s leadership as the caucus works toward revitalising the PDP’s legislative agenda and restoring its influence within the chamber.

“As Hon. Agbedi takes on this critical responsibility, I assure him of my full support. Together, we will work to strengthen our party, uphold democratic values, and resist all attempts to weaken our resolve,” Ugochinyere affirmed.

The election of Hon. Fred Agbedi is seen by observers as a significant step in reshaping the PDP’s legislative strategy as the party prepares for the political challenges ahead of the 2027 polls.
