Despite the raging controversy over the propised illegal extension of the current Executive of the Nigeria Association of Customs Licensed Agents , the Secretary General , Alhaji Babatunde Mukaila has insisted that the Tony Iju Nwabunike led Exco would not hand over in April. Mukaila who spoke exclusively to Shipping World said the National Executive Council of the Association was relying on a December 16, 2020 resolution of the General Assembly in Owerri, Imo State, where a purported ammendment to the Constitution was made. ” Those insinuating that we shouldn’t have benefited from the said ammendment are only economical with the reality on ground. What if we had decided to contest this year and added an additional five years to our tenure, making it a straight nine years? ” , he asked.
Mukaila explained that under the ammended constitution which has since been adopted, the BoT, NECOM and Chapter Executives now have six , five and four years single terms respectively. But reacting to this claim, the registered BoT Chair of ANLCA, Taiwo Mustapha insisted that the tenure of the current Tony Nwabunike led Exco expires in April. ” You can’t shift the goal post in the middle of the game, this is totally unacceptable and should be resisted by every right thinking member of this Association. What is the gurantee that these characters will not move to Aba in December 2022 and lie to us that they have again ammended the constitution to add another two years to their tenure. We have every reason to believe that they want to perpetuate themselves in office at all cost” , said Taiwo Mustapha
