Mearsk Line Suspends Peak Season Charge.

Executive Secretary and CEO, Hassan Bello

Mearsk Line Nigeria Ltd has bowed to pressure and reversed an earlier introduction of peak season charge.  The reversal followed an intervention by Hassan Bello,  Executive Secretary, Nigerian Shippers’ Council. In a statement in Lagos, Mearsk Line said it has instructed its commercial department to suspend the controversial charge effective September 1, 2020. It would be recalled that the Nigerian Shippers Council had protested to the African Union of Shippers Councils on the introduction of the arbitrary charges by Mearsk Line and had asked for its immediate scrapping.

Shipping World magazine can confirm on good authority that in a letter signed by  Mearsk Line Nigeria Representative, Lara Lana and addressed to Nigerian Shippers Council, it conveyed the decision of its head office to scrap the obnoxious peak charge.
