Director-General of the Nigerian Maritime Administration and Safety Agency (NIMASA), Dr. Bashir Jamoh, has reaffirmed the Agency’s commitment to the establishment of a strong and sustainable national fleet, saying the desire for a Nigerian National shipping line is still on course. Jamoh stated this in Lagos while receiving members of the National Fleet Implementation Committee who paid him a courtesy visit at the Agency’s headquarters. The Governing Board of the Nigerian Maritime Administration and Safety Agency (NIMASA) has approved the promotion of 595 staff, including nine Directors. The promotions were approved the inaugural meeting of the Board in Lagos . A statement by the newly promoted Deputy Director of Corporate Communications, Chief Philip Kyanet, explained that 9 deputy directors were elevated to substantive directors  while 45 Assistant Directors were promoted to Deputy Directors, and 71 Grade Level 14 officers were promoted to Assistant Directors. The Comptroller General of Nigeria Customs Service, Hameed Ali was again conspicuously absent as heads of maritime agencies  met in Lagos,  agreeing to set up a timeline for 24 hour port operations. Also absent at the second scheduled monthly meeting which held at the Corporate Headquarters of NIMASA, was the Rector of the Maritime Academy of Nigeria, Oron Akwa Ibom State, Commodore Duja Effedua.
