Minister of Transportation, Rotimi Amaechi has promised a better deal for staff of the ministry during an interactive session in Abuja. Amaechi who vowed to ameliorate the challenges facing the staff has accordingly promised them free bus rides. Said he: " knowing the background I come from, I felt that you people are spending more money having to transport youselves to work and I'm surprised that they are collecting monies from you for those buses ", he said. More than 100 persons were feared dead as a Cameroon-bound vessel capsized on the high sea on Sunday. According to sources at the Nigeria Port Authority (NPA) at Marina, Lagos, the vessel which left Calabar, the Cross River State capital, for Cameroon with about 180 passengers on board on Sunday did not arrive at its destination. In the morning when some reporters went to Marina, Calabar, the takeoff location, some persons were seen discussing the incident in a sad mood. As at the time of the visit to Marina, Calabar, there was no official report from Shoreline, the official operators of the vessel and the harbour. The Media Relations Manager, Shell Nigeria, Bamidele Odugbesan, stated this while reacting to the allegation that the oil giant was among the 50 oil firms that owe the NDDC. The Principal Partner, Paris Trust Limited, Timothy Bagwams, who said his firm was authorised by the NDDC to serve letters to the defaulting oil companies that owe the Commission, noted that Shell was among the defaulters.Oil companies in Nigeria statutorily are mandated to pay three per cent of their annual budget to the Commission. BREAKING NEWS : Barring any last minute change in plan, the Vice Chancellor of the Nigeria's Premier Maritime University, Okerenkoko, Delta State, Prof Maureen Ongoebi Etebu, may today pick up the nomination form for the forthcoming governorship election in Bayelsa State. She would be contesting under the platform of the All Progressive Congress, APC. It could not be confirmed as at press time if she had resigned from her position as Vice Chancellor of the Nigerian Maritime University.
