Dr Bashir Jamoh illegal detention: An Open Letter to the Icpc

It is about a week ago since the Independent and Corrupt Practices Commission arrested and detained Dr Bashir Jamoh, the immediate past Director General of the Nigerian Maritime Adminstration and Safety Agency, NIMASA. As Convener of the Maritime Elders Forum, we are disturbed that the ICPC is yet to offer any official statement as to the reason(s) behind his arrest, nor file charges against him. As Director General of NIMASA between 2020 and 2024, Dr Jamoh served meritoriously as helmsman ,introducing several innovative tools and reforms to improve Maritime Adminstration, Safety and Security in Nigeria and by extention, the gulf of Guinea. Ondo Deep Sea Port gets green light, set to serve Nigeria, West Africa

Ondo State Governor, Lucky Aiyedatiwa, has said the proposed Ondo Deep Sea Port will operate as a major hub for international trade, serving Nigeria and countries within the West African subregion. Aiyedatiwa disclosed this on Thursday in Abuja while receiving the revalidated licence for the port from the Minister of Marine and Blue Economy, Adegboyega Oyetola. Governor of Bayelsa State, Senator Douye Diri, on Thursday, presented the state’s 2026 appropriation bill of N998,371,313,943.04 to the House of Assembly. Governor Diri said the proposal tagged: “Budget of Assured Prosperity II” would be funded through various projected revenue sources, including statutory allocation N42.2bn, Value Added Tax N84bn, 13% derivation N212.6bn and other FAAC allocations N488bn. Other projected receipts are internally generated revenue of N85.9bn, internal and external grants amounting to N24.9bn while domestic loans would be N50bn.
