The Chairman, Nigerian Ports Consultative Council, Otunba Kunle Folarin has called for the institution of the National Single Window at the nation's seaports. Otunba Folarin made the call when he led the Nigerian Ports Consultative Council (NPCC) on a courtesy visit to the Nigerian Shippers' Council in Lagos. According to him, National Single Window would give Nigeria a competitive edge over other maritime nations, noting that all stakeholders are working assiduously to make the country a regional maritime hub. Bayelsa State Governor, Senator Douye Diri, on Wednesday, presented a 2022 Appropriation Bill of N310.7 billion to the state House Assembly. It is tagged: "Budget of Sustainable Growth" with the Ministry of Works and Infrastructure having the highest allocation of N51 billion to drive the critical infrastructure programme of his administration. The Ministry of Agriculture was allotted N12 billion followed by education and health sectors, which got N4 billion each while the Ministry of Finance was allotted N3 billion.   The League of MARITIME Editors and Publishers has unequivocally condemned the invasion of some shipping companies by officials of the Federal Committee on Compition and Consumer Protection. The officials aided by heavily armed police and army personnel, invaded the premises of shipping companies via COSCO , HULLBLYTH, OMA/CGM, LANSAL and HAPOD LYOD and unleashed mayhem on the company and its staff. Reports have it that personal effects of the staff such as phones were seized by the government officials while the staff were held hostage for hours. PIRACY: GOV DOUYE DIRI IMPOSES DUSK TO DAWN CURFEW ON WATERWAYS

As part of measures to curtail sea piracy, kidnapping and other criminal activities, Bayelsa State government has imposed a dusk-to-dawn curfew on its waterways. The curfew on water transportation, which takes immediate effect, is between 7pm and 6am. The state government also imposed a ban on the use of 200- horsepower speed boats. These measures were announced on Monday evening at the end of the 12th state security council meeting presided over by Governor Douye Diri in Government House, Yenagoa. The Governing Board of the Nigerian Maritime Administration and Safety Agency (NIMASA) has approved the appointment of three new Directors, Mr. Eric OJI, Mr. Dimowo Heaky, and a former spokesman of the Agency, Mr. Isichei Osamgbi. Nigeria’s Alternate Permanent Representative at the International Maritime Organisation (IMO), Mr. Dirisu Abdulmumuni, was promoted to Deputy Director, alongside 61 others.  Two hundred and thirty-three other staff were elevated to their next grade levels.
