Bayelsa State Governor, Senator Douye Diri, has expressed dissatisfaction with comments credited to the Director General of the National Oil Spill Detection and Response Agency (NOSDRA), Mr. Idris Musa, on the legality of the state's technical committee on the recent oil spill in Nembe Local Government Area of the state. The NOSDRA DG was reportedly quoted to have said that the committee was illegal and also prevented the media from being part of the Joint Investigation Visit to the spillage site. Nembe Oil Spill: Bayelsa Sets Up 11-Man Technical Committee

Bayelsa State government has constituted a technical committee over the recent oil spill at the OML 29 Santa Barbara River wellhead in Nembe Local Government Area of the state. The platform, which is operated by Aiteo Exploration and Production Company Limited, had a blowout of gas and crude oil that lasted about 38 days before it was killed. Governor Douye Diri inaugurated the 11-man committee on Wednesday inside the Executive Chamber of Government House, Yenagoa. The committee is headed by the Attorney General and Commissioner for Justice, Biriyai Dambo SAN while his Special Assistant, Tariotu Lugard, will serve as secretary. Bayelsa State Governor, Senator Douye Diri, has described Barr. Kemasuode Wodu as a 'homegrown' Senior Advocate of Nigeria (SAN). Wodu, a former Attorney-General and Commissioner for Justice in the state, is among 72 legal practitioners in the country conferred with the rank of Senior Advocate of Nigeria in Abuja on Wednesday.
