{"id":3390,"date":"2022-09-26T21:00:37","date_gmt":"2022-09-26T20:00:37","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/shippingworld-ng.com\/?p=3390"},"modified":"2022-09-26T21:03:15","modified_gmt":"2022-09-26T20:03:15","slug":"world-maritime-day-nigeria-joins-imo-on-greener-shipping-for-sustainable-development","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/shippingworld-ng.com\/index.php\/2022\/09\/26\/world-maritime-day-nigeria-joins-imo-on-greener-shipping-for-sustainable-development\/","title":{"rendered":"WORLD MARITIME DAY: NIGERIA JOINS IMO ON GREENER SHIPPING FOR SUSTAINABLE DEVELOPMENT"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The Honorable Minister of Transportation\u00a0Mu\u2019 azu Jaji Sambo says Nigeria is committed to achieving greener\u00a0shipping\u00a0in line with the campaign by the International Maritime Organization, IMO, to attain sustainable development in the maritime industry.\u00a0This is just as Nigeria joins the IMO to commemorate the\u00a02022\u00a0World Maritime Day.<\/p>\n<p>Sambo said that\u00a0Nigeria would not be left behind in the global move towards greener shipping, while also reflecting on the need for stakeholders in the maritime sector\u00a0to begin exploring ways to transition\u00a0into a greener and more sustainable future.<\/p>\n<p><img fetchpriority=\"high\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-medium wp-image-3392 alignleft\" src=\"https:\/\/shippingworld-ng.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/09\/1FEF6BA7-0877-4600-A2B6-88AED06161C4-224x300.jpeg\" alt=\"\" width=\"224\" height=\"300\" srcset=\"https:\/\/shippingworld-ng.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/09\/1FEF6BA7-0877-4600-A2B6-88AED06161C4-224x300.jpeg 224w, https:\/\/shippingworld-ng.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/09\/1FEF6BA7-0877-4600-A2B6-88AED06161C4.jpeg 672w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 224px) 100vw, 224px\" \/>On his part, the Director General of the Nigerian Maritime Administration and Safety Agency, NIMASA,\u00a0Dr.\u00a0Bashir Jamoh\u00a0noted that the Theme for this\u00a0year\u2019s world Maritime Day celebration is in line with the Agency\u2019s mission of achieving cleaner oceans in developing shipping in Nigeria.\u00a0He also pointed out that NIMASA is already working in line with the call by\u00a0the IMO Secretary General Kitack\u00a0Lim\u00a0for developing countries to adopt green technology.<\/p>\n<p>According to the IMO Secretary General,\u00a0\u201cThe\u00a0World Maritime Day theme\u00a02022 \u201cNew technologies for greener shipping\u201d\u00a0&#8211;\u00a0reflects the need to support a green transition of the maritime sector into a sustainable future, while leaving no one behind. The theme provides an opportunity to focus on the importance of sustainable maritime sector and the need to build back better\u00a0and\u00a0greener\u00a0in a post pandemic world\u201d.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;Nigeria, represented by NIMASA, as an active member state of the International Maritime Organization (IMO) is involved in the processes of creating new international agreements and protocols to address environmental issues such as marine pollution, oil spills and emissions from the shipping industry.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>The theme of this year&#8217;s World Maritime Day is linked to the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), particularly SDGs 13 and 14 on climate action and sustainable use of the oceans, seas and marine resources; SDG 9 on industry, innovation and infrastructure; and SDG 17, which highlights the importance of partnerships and implementation to achieve these goals.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>The Honorable Minister of Transportation&nbsp;Mu&rsquo; azu Jaji Sambo says Nigeria is committed to achieving greener&nbsp;shipping&nbsp;in line with the campaign by the International Maritime Organization, IMO, to attain sustainable development in the maritime industry.&nbsp;This is just as Nigeria joins the IMO to commemorate the&nbsp;2022&nbsp;World Maritime Day.
