The Management<\/span><\/span> of<\/span><\/span> Nigerian Shippers\u2019 Council <\/span><\/span>NSC, Led by <\/span><\/span>Executive Secretary and Chief Executive Officer <\/span><\/span>Hon. Emmanuel Jime, paid an advocacy visit to the<\/span><\/span> Maritime W<\/span><\/span>orkers Union of Nigeria<\/span><\/span>,<\/span><\/span> MWUN<\/span><\/span> at <\/span><\/span>the Union\u2019s<\/span><\/span> headquarters in <\/span><\/span>Ajegunle<\/span><\/span>, <\/span><\/span>today<\/span><\/span>. <\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

Com. <\/span><\/span>Adewale <\/span><\/span>Adeyanju, President <\/span><\/span>General<\/span><\/span>, (MWUN)<\/span><\/span> welcomed the management of NSC, commend<\/span><\/span>ing<\/span><\/span> Shippers\u2019 <\/span><\/span>Council for <\/span><\/span>its various<\/span><\/span> efforts in the maritime industry<\/span><\/span>.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

In the course of<\/span><\/span> the discussion<\/span><\/span>s<\/span><\/span>, the issue of the ongoing shutdown of AP Moller Terminal in Apapa<\/span><\/span>came up. Comrade Adeyanju expressed disappointment <\/span><\/span>in the attitude of APM Terminal<\/span><\/span>management<\/span><\/span> specifically the \u201cHire & Fire\u201d<\/span><\/span> system. He also complained about the poor retirement package APMT gives its employees<\/span><\/span>.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

Also speaking at the meeting was District chairman, APMT, Com. Tunde Balogun<\/span><\/span> who <\/span><\/span>spoke about<\/span><\/span> APM Terminal<\/span><\/span>\u2019s<\/span><\/span> employ<\/span><\/span>ment<\/span><\/span> of<\/span><\/span> foreign workers instead of Nigerians, demotion of staff in order to accommodate expatriates in higher positions of the organization<\/span><\/span>and the<\/span><\/span> employment of inexperienced workers to high positions in the organization<\/span><\/span>. He <\/span><\/span>also bemoaned the <\/span><\/span>discriminat<\/span><\/span>ory<\/span><\/span> payment structure of <\/span><\/span>the\u00a0<\/span><\/span>organization.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

ES\/CEO, NSC pledged to engage the management of APMT with a view <\/span><\/span>to resolving the<\/span><\/span> issues<\/span><\/span>.<\/span><\/span> He <\/span><\/span>also ple<\/span><\/span>ade<\/span><\/span>d with the President General of the MWUN for some more time in order to achieve these. This was followed by a response from the President General who said that the Union would <\/span><\/span>look into <\/span><\/span>the<\/span><\/span>request<\/span><\/span>. He described Hon.
