{"id":1490,"date":"2019-08-22T00:03:37","date_gmt":"2019-08-21T23:03:37","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/shippingworld-ng.com\/?p=1490"},"modified":"2019-08-22T00:03:38","modified_gmt":"2019-08-21T23:03:38","slug":"nimasa-demonstrates-commitment-to-seafarers-welfare","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/shippingworld-ng.com\/index.php\/2019\/08\/22\/nimasa-demonstrates-commitment-to-seafarers-welfare\/","title":{"rendered":"NIMASA DEMONSTRATES COMMITMENT TO SEAFARERS WELFARE"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p>\u00b7&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;<strong>Facilities Signing of Landmark Collective\nBargaining Agreement<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>In furtherance of its effort to ensure improved working\nconditions for seafarers in the country, the Nigerian Maritime Administration\nand Safety Agency (NIMASA) has midwifed the signing of the Nigerian Seafarers\nConditions of Service Collective Bargaining Agreement (CBA). The agreement\nsigned at the Agency&#8217;s headquarters in Lagos was with the endorsement of the\nNational Joint Industrial Council (NJIC)CollectiveBargaining\nAgreement on minimum standards on conditions of service for Nigerian seafarers\nin both coastal and offshore sectors.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Speaking at the signing ceremony, the Director-General of\nNIMASA, Dr. Dakuku Peterside, expressed his belief that proper implementation\nof the agreement would bring about significant improvement in seafarers\u2019\nworking conditions.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Dakuku said, \u201cAs an Agency, we are happy to midwife this process\nthat will enhance the welfare of our seafarers. I wish to commend the\nseafarers\u2019 employers in the offshore and coastal sectors for their cooperation\nand understanding in seeing through the whole process.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cIn the same vein, I wish to implore them to also ensure that\nthe CBA, which is meant to guide ship-owners in their bipartite negotiations\nand the development of all employment agreements, is implemented as endorsed.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The DG, who was represented by the Executive Director, Maritime\nLabour and Cabotage Services, Mr. Gambo Ahmed, added that the conditions of\nservice of the CBA is a minimum standard in line with the extant national and\ninternational regulations and must be met by all employers of seafarers.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Mr. Gambo who is also the Chairman of the NJIC urged employers to note that the enhancement of welfare of seafarers will in turn enhance productivity and effective job performance.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-image\"><figure class=\"aligncenter\"><img fetchpriority=\"high\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"468\" height=\"351\" src=\"https:\/\/shippingworld-ng.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/08\/nimasa-pic-2.png\" alt=\"Nimasa\" class=\"wp-image-1491\" srcset=\"https:\/\/shippingworld-ng.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/08\/nimasa-pic-2.png 468w, https:\/\/shippingworld-ng.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/08\/nimasa-pic-2-300x225.png 300w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 468px) 100vw, 468px\" \/><figcaption>From L-R: Rear Admiral O.P Ozojiofor (Rtd) of Giant Shipping Services and Ibe Magnus of Bourbon Interoil Nigeria Ltd signing the National Joint Industrial Council (NJIC) Collective Bargaining Agreement (CBA) on Minimum Conditions  of Service of Nigerian Seafarers  for Coastal and Offshore Sector at the NIMASA Head Quarters, Lagos.<\/figcaption><\/figure><\/div>\n\n\n\n<p>Some of the stakeholders at the occasion were Mrs. Wasilat Mohammed\nAdamu, who co-signed the agreement in her capacity as representative of the\nFederal Ministry of Transportation; Mr. Magnus Ibe of Bourbon International\nLimited; Mr. Alalade Matthew, representing the Nigeria Merchant Navy Officers\nand Water Transport Senior Staff Association (NMNO\/WTSSA); Director, Maritime\nLabour Services, NIMASA, Mr. Ibrahim Jibril; and Director, Special Duties,\nNIMASA, Hajia Lami Tumaka.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>In attendance to witness the event were key maritime\nstakeholders from the offshore and coastal maritime sectors, Maritime Workers\nUnion (MWUN), Association of Manning Agents of Nigeria (AMAN), National\nSeafarers Welfare Board (NSWB), as well as representatives of the Federal\nMinistry of Transportation, Federal Ministry of Labour and Employment, and\nmanagement staff of NIMASA.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>It may be recalled that the CBA for the fishing sector had\nearlier been signed, and with the signing of the agreement for the coastal and\noffshore sectors, Nigerian seafarers now have a complete CBA.
