{"id":1397,"date":"2019-08-07T00:20:04","date_gmt":"2019-08-06T23:20:04","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/shippingworld-ng.com\/?p=1397"},"modified":"2019-08-07T00:20:06","modified_gmt":"2019-08-06T23:20:06","slug":"nigeria-is-targeting-a-world-class-ship-registry-dakuku","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/shippingworld-ng.com\/index.php\/2019\/08\/07\/nigeria-is-targeting-a-world-class-ship-registry-dakuku\/","title":{"rendered":"NIGERIA IS TARGETING A WORLD CLASS SHIP REGISTRY &#8211; DAKUKU"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p>\u00b7&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;\n<strong>Receives report of review\ncommittee<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Director-General of the Nigerian Maritime\nAdministration and Safety Agency (NIMASA), Dr. Dakuku Peterside, has received\nthe report of the committee on the review of the Nigerian Ship Registry, with a\ndeclaration that the Agency\u2019s target is to have a world-class ship registry.\nDakuku said the goal was for Nigeria to have a ship registry that will meet\ninternational certification standards and compete favourably with the best in\nthe global maritime community.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Dakuku\nspoke yesterday in Lagos, while receiving the report of the committee tasked\nwith reviewing the activities and operations of the Nigerian Ship Registration\nOffice.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cNIMASA is working at giving Nigerians a Ship Registry that is respected across the globe and that will be attractive to ship-owners, so they can fly the Nigerian Flag. He said from the preliminary report\nearlier submitted to the Agency, the diligent implementation of the findings of\nthe committee would have a beneficial effect on the Nigerian maritime sector.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>According\nto him, \u201cWe are putting in place the necessary building blocks for Nigeria to\nbe the first African country to achieve a five star International Standards\nCertification by 2020. International standard certification for ship\nregistration is our goal at NIMASA.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Speaking just before submitting the report, the committee chairman, Engr. The committee carried out an extensive review of the\nNigerian Ship Registry, took cognizance of stakeholders\u2019 opinions and\nexpectations, and carried out comparative analysis of the ship registration\nprocesses of some Global Registries in arriving at the report. \u201cNIMASA Management\nshould consider and implement submissions contained in the report.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The\nterms of reference of the nine-man committee, which was set up in February 2018,\nincluded to examine the status of the ship registry in line with international\nbest practices and advise and recommend requisite improvements of necessity in\nthe registry.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The\ncommittee was inaugurated on February 27, 2018 to establish a strategy to revamp\nthe Nigerian ship registration process in order to raise the profile of the\nNigerian flag in the global maritime space.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Director-General of the Nigerian Maritime Administration and Safety Agency (NIMASA), Dr. Dakuku Peterside, has received the report of the committee on the review of the Nigerian Ship Registry, with a declaration that the Agency\u2019s target is to have a world-class ship registry.
