{"id":1319,"date":"2019-07-26T09:12:23","date_gmt":"2019-07-26T08:12:23","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/shippingworld-ng.com\/?p=1319"},"modified":"2025-07-01T11:52:21","modified_gmt":"2025-07-01T10:52:21","slug":"harnessing-nigerias-marine-biodiversity-for-accelerated-economic-growth","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/shippingworld-ng.com\/index.php\/2019\/07\/26\/harnessing-nigerias-marine-biodiversity-for-accelerated-economic-growth\/","title":{"rendered":"Harnessing Nigeria\u2019s Marine Biodiversity for Accelerated Economic Growth"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p><strong>FG To Integrate Blue Economy In ERGP<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>* As NIMASA hosts maiden edition of\nAfrican Day of Seas and Oceans<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>As part of efforts to ensure the maritime industry plays a significant role in the growth of Nigeria&#8217;s economy, the Federal Government has initiated steps to inject blue economy concept into its Economic Recovery and Growth Plan (ERGP).<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>While this can be seen as an avenue to correct the\nprevious jettisoning of the maritime sector in national planning, the\ngovernment also intends to setup a strategic Blue Economy committee under the\nleadership of the Vice President, Prof. Yemi Osinbajo.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Transportation,\nAlhaji Sabiu Zakari revealed this earlier today, during a ceremony to mark the\nmaiden edition of Africa&#8217;s Day of Seas and Oceans scheduled for July 25th,\nyearly.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Zakari, who was represented by the Director, Maritime\nSafety and Security, Ministry of Transportation, Mr. Danjuma Dauda, noted that\nthe Ministry of Transport would play a key role in this Blue Economy Steering\ncommittee which is expected to develop a Blue Economy policy for the nation.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>He stated that the policy would be geared towards\nprotecting the marine environment in order to guarantee Nigeria&#8217;s economic and\nsustainable development.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Similarly, he noted that the Transport Ministry has also\nsetup an inter-agency committee to come up with implementation strategies for\nthe Blue Economy Policy and National Transport Policy.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Meanwhile, the Speaker, House of Representatives, Mr. Femi\nGbajabiamila stated at the ceremony that under his leadership, the House would\nbe committed towards national quest for the sustainable use, conservation,\nexploitation and exploration of Nigeria&#8217;s seas and oceans to maximize the vast\neconomic potentials.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Gbajabiamila, who was represented by Hon.
