The Comptroller-General of Nigeria Customs Service, NCS, Col. Hameed Ali has warned officers and men of the service to desist from all forms of illegality or risk being arrested and jailed. Col Ali gave the warning in Calabar while addressing a joint parade of officers and men of the service and those of the Nigeria Immigration Service, NIS, during an inspection visit to border posts in Cross River. Lekki Deep Seaport to Create over 170,000 jobs

The proposed Lekki Deep Sea Port at the Lagos Free Trade Zone (LFTZ) in Ibeju Lekki, Lagos state, Nigeria. The Infrastructure Concession Regulatory Commission (ICRC) has recommended the connection of all Port Terminals to the national rail network. It said this would facilitate fast actualization and commencement of operations at the proposed Lekki Deep Sea Port at the Lagos Free Trade Zone (LFTZ) in Ibeju Lekki, Lagos state. The ICRC Director-General, Mr Chidi Chidi Izuwah, gave the recommendation during a monitoring visit by a joint delegation from the Commission and the Nigerian Ports Authority (NPA) to the site. The Nigerian Shippers’ Council, NSC, yesterday disclosed that it has slashed port charges by 34 percent thereby redirecting Nigerian bound cargoes hitherto diverted to ports of neighbouring countries. Speaking at the third annual Ministerial stakeholders meeting in Lagos, Executive Secretary of the Council, Mr. Hassan Bello said that the processing of further production is ongoing. Although, the Council was silent on the details on the reduction of port charges he, however said that the container cleaning fee that was collected by shipping firms from importers has been cancelled. The Nigeria Customs Service (NCS) on Thursday inaugurated two seagoing specialized security gunboats acquired in 2015 by the immediate past Comptroller-General, Abdullahi Inde Dikko, to boost Nigeria’s anti-smuggling capacity on waters. The boats were acquired towards the end of Dikko’s administration. The present Col. Hameed Ali (retd) led leadership, on assumption of office in 2015 abandoned the patrol boats, which procurement was approved on May 9, 2012 by the Federal Executive Council (FEC) of the former President Goodluck Jonathan.
